Gerishom is a Director of Health in the Africa Regional Office, where his work focuses on addressing the vulnerability of health systems and populations to climate change and integrating climate and health priorities into climate, health, and broader development plans. He collaborates with African governments to develop adaptation strategies and build resilience within their health systems by developing climate strategies and adaptation plans, sustainable financing strategies and enhancing their capacity to implement climate-health initiatives effectively. His previous work at the Foundation includes driving vaccination uptake and building capacity for Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) during the COVID-19 response. Additionally, in collaboration with Africa CDC and other partners, he contributed to strengthening public health infrastructure, and supporting public health emergency response efforts in Africa, as well as advancing collaborative surveillance systems in partnership with the WHO Pandemic Hub at a global level.
Prior to his current role, Gerishom worked with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), where he played a pivotal role in Kenya’s health financing reforms aimed at achieving universal health coverage (UHC). He has collaborated with Kenya’s HIV/AIDS program to ensure commodity security and optimize patient outcomes, led initiatives to transition patients to more effective HIV treatment regimens, establish efficient health commodity management platforms, and ensure sustainable financing of Kenya’s HIV program.
At IDinsight, Gerishom led the execution of a large-scale randomized evaluation of a UNICEF-supported integrated Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) and nutrition program, generating rigorous evidence to inform policy decisions, optimize resource allocation, and improve program delivery.
Gerishom holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Harvard University.
